Mattresses

Bulky Clean Up or FREE* Drop Off

Mattresses can be picked up by MarBorg as part of a scheduled bulky item clean up.  Many mattresses can be dropped off for FREE if they meet program requirements at our C&D recycling facility  Mattresses that are NOT free include: crib/sleeper sofa mattresses, infested with bed bugs or other living organisms, severely damaged, twisted, wet, frozen, or soiled.

Box Springs

Bulky Clean Up or FREE Drop Off

Box springs can be picked up by MarBorg as part of a scheduled bulky item clean up. Please call us to schedule your bulky item cleanup. Box springs can also be dropped off for FREE at our C&D recycling facility.

Furniture

Bulky Clean Up or Drop Off

Most furniture can be picked up by MarBorg as part of a scheduled bulky item clean up. Please call us to schedule your bulky item cleanup. Furniture can also be dropped off for a fee at our C&D recycling facility.

Garden Hoses

Trash

Garden and irrigation hoses are generally considered to be at the end of their life, so they are very difficult to recycle.

Bicycles

Bulky Clean Up or FREE* Drop Off

Bicycles can be picked up by MarBorg as part of a scheduled bulky item clean up. Please call us to schedule your bulky item cleanup. Bicycles can also be dropped off for FREE* at our C&D recycling facility​ if they are 100% metal (all plastic & rubber removed), or for a fee if they are not 100% metal.

Pallets

Bulky Clean Up or Drop Off

Must be free of paint and untreated wood. Pallets (up to 4) can be picked up by MarBorg as part of a scheduled bulky item clean up. Please call us to schedule your bulky item cleanup. Pallets can also be dropped off for a fee at our C&D recycling facility.

Excess Cardboard

Bulky Clean Up or FREE Drop Off

Excess cardboard can be picked up by MarBorg as part of a scheduled bulky item clean up as long as it is bagged, boxed, or bundled. Please call us to schedule your bulky item cleanup. Cardboard can also be dropped off for FREE at our C&DDowntown, and Goleta recycling facilities.

Appliances

Appliances can be picked up by MarBorg as part of a scheduled bulky item clean up. Please call us to schedule your bulky item cleanup. Appliances can also be dropped off for FREE at our C&D recycling facility.

Refrigerators and Freezers

Bulky Clean Up or Drop Off

Refrigerators/freezers can be picked up by MarBorg as part of a scheduled bulky item clean up. Please call us to schedule your bulky item cleanup. Also, refrigerators/freezers can be dropped off at our C&D recycling facility for $20, or for FREE if freon is removed (certificate required).

Air Conditioners

Bulky Clean Up or FREE Drop Off

Air conditioners can be picked up by MarBorg as part of a scheduled bulky item clean up. Please call us to schedule your bulky item cleanup. Also, air conditioners without freon can be dropped off for FREE at our C&D recycling facility, or for a fee if they still contain freon.

Carpet

*Drop Off at Recycling Center*

Carpet can be dropped off for a fee at our C&D recycling facility. Carpet is recycled as part of the Carpet America Recovery Effort (CARE) program. Carpet is NOT acceptable in a bulky item cleanup.

Small Rugs

Bulky Clean Up or Drop Off

Area rugs (not to exceed 6 ft. in length) can be picked up by MarBorg as part of a scheduled bulky item clean up. Please call us to schedule your bulky item cleanup. Also, area rugs can be dropped off for a fee at our C&D recycling facility.

Textiles

Trash or FREE Drop Off

***Drop off program currently paused as of May 2024.*** Textiles that cannot be donated or repurposed can be placed in the trash container. Alternately, certain textiles can be dropped off for free at our Goleta recycling center.

Oil-Based and Water-Based Paint

*Drop Off at Recycling Center*

In California, water-based (or latex) and oil-based paint is considered hazardous waste. Drop off paint at our Downtown or Goleta recycling centers. Paint must be kept in its original container (with a legible label) and be free of contaminants.

Antifreeze

*Drop Off at Recycling Center*

Antifreeze, even if labeled “non toxic”, can be a corrosive. Drop off antifreeze at our Downtown or Goleta recycling centers. All colors and brands are accepted.

Motor Oil

*Drop Off at Recycling Center*

Motor oil can be dropped off at our Downtown or Goleta recycling centers as long as it is NOT mixed with any other liquids (even water).

Smoke Detectors

*Drop Off at UCSB’s Hazardous Waste Facility*

Smoke detectors must be dropped off at UCSB’s Hazardous Waste Facility.

Carbon Monoxide Detectors

Electronic Waste (E-Waste)

Electronic waste (e-waste) like cell phones, computers, and household appliances can be dropped off at our Downtown or Goleta recycling centers. Be sure to reset your settings and/or delete all personal information.

Propane Tanks

EMPTY propane tanks with all valves removed can be dropped off at our C&D FacilityDowntown or Goleta recycling centers. We must be able to clearly see inside of the tank to verify that it is empty.

Helium Tanks

EMPTY helium tanks with all valves removed can be dropped off at our C&D FacilityDowntown or Goleta recycling centers. We must be able to clearly see inside of the tank to verify that it is empty.

Oxygen Tanks

EMPTY oxygen tanks with regulators removed can be dropped off at our C&D FacilityDowntown or Goleta recycling centers. We must be able to clearly see inside of the tank to verify that it is empty. Or, contact the manufacturer about taking back the tank.

Fire Extinguishers

EMPTY fire extinguishers can be dropped off for free at our Downtown or Goleta recycling centers. If there is any fire retardant in the container, it can be dropped off at our C&D Facility for a fee.

Sharps

*Free Mail-Back Container*

Home-generated sharps, like needles and lancets must be disposed of safely via a special sharps collection container. To learn more about this free program, click here.
