Did you know that textile waste has increased 811% since 1960, and most of this waste ends up in landfills? In fact, textile waste accounts for 8% of all landfilled municipal solid waste – that’s a lot of waste! In the United States, we are large consumers of clothing and often discard of perfectly good items that someone else could wear. Residents are now able to drop off clean textiles at MarBorg’s Goleta Recycling Center and the County of Santa Barbara’s South Coast Recycling and Transfer Station. Textiles collected through this program will be picked up by T-Waste Solutions to be reused or recycled. A majority of these textiles will be sent overseas for people to use as clothing, and the remaining textiles are recycled into shop rags and sold to local businesses. See below for more details.
