Textile Drop-Off
Did you know that textile waste has increased 811% since 1960, and most of this waste ends up in landfills? In fact, textile waste accounts for 8% of all landfilled municipal solid waste – that’s a lot of waste! In the United States, we are large consumers of clothing and often discard of perfectly good items that someone else could wear.
Residents can drop off clean, lightly worn textiles for FREE at MarBorg’s Goleta Recycling Center. In partnership with Santa Barbara County Resource Recovery & Waste Management, the City of Goleta, and the City of Santa Barbara, textiles collected through this program will be transported to Homeboy Threads in Los Angeles. Homeboy Threads sorts, grades, and pre-processes to optimize reuse and recycling outcomes for apparel and other textiles. Our items will be sorted for reuse (donation, wholesale, and resale) and positive value (items that are not in good enough condition to be re-worn, but still have valuable markets like rags and some fiber-to-fiber solutions). Best of all – our material will stay in the United States! See below for more details.
