Modern smoke alarms contain very small amounts of a radioactive material known as Americium 241. Due to the presence of radioactive material, MarBorg is not permitted to accept smoke alarms at our facilities. Customers should send old alarms back to the original manufacturer for proper disposal. An alternative option is to contact Curie Environmental Services, a company that is certified to handle and recycle old smoke alarms.
